Transition Towns is a program for developing local community resilience – the capacity to adapt to the challenges of our time. These include environmental, economic, and social issues. It is grassroot and not top down, self-reliant and not dependent on outside funding and expertise.
Resilience is defined as the capacity to thrive in the face of the growing range and severity of challenges that face this country and the world.

Transition Centre provides a multi-tiered approach to developing local community resilience programs. We are prepared to customize our offerings. Our initial consultation is free and subsequent expenses tailored to the needs and means of local communities and groups.
Transition Centre does not claim it will fix your problems; indeed, it does not offer to do so. Our objective is to encourage each locality to gain the capacity to solve their own problems. We will work to facilitate a startup. We will help channel knowledge and skills and best practices to achieve that capacity. Coming from out of town, we bring a measure of objectivity. We are non-partisan.
There are communities that will choose to pioneer local resilience. Our objective is for these to achieve the capacity to serve as resource hubs within their own regions. Success will breed success. We seek to establish a network of these Rural Resilient Hubs across the country to build synergy and overcome a sense of isolation.
Transition Towns is an international movement established in 2006. Its history and core principles and practices can be found at the following link.
